The only thing that should immediately exist to you is your mindset.
Sure, there are other people. However, the only thing you can afford to let yourself be affected by is your vision. If you can't focus on your dreams, you won't have the fortitude to continue pushing through obstacles till the end. I tell people all the time that the reason I train, running eight miles a day, isn't just because of all the health benefits. The main reason I train is to push myself through breakthroughs.
I do run to remind myself I can. I do hard things to remind myself what I'm capable of. Although I can't predict exactly what my future holds, I can ensure one thing—that I'll react to it as best I possibly can.
There are things in everyone's life holding them back. There are deep-rooted life problems people continue allowing to slow them down, and that's something that breaks my heart every day. Lots of people look at certain stresses and blame those issues for how they feel, but that isn't the right fix—it's just prolonging what needs to be done!
Think about it this way—many things people blame for their issues are just tree branches clouding their vision. People neglect to address the roots and trunk of the problem, and that ends up causing stagnation.
Look at a tree. Its roots stretch feet into the earth, and it doesn't move during its entire lifespan.
To fix our issues and get to what we believe is self-satisfaction, we make all these temporary changes, such as job or relationship changes. We switch out our group of friends, but those small changes are temporary band-aids. Often, we neglect to address our deeper issues, the ones rooted deep in our pasts.
Lots of motivational speakers talk about how easy building good habits is, but I say it's even easier to build bad ones. We grow these bad habits like roots over time, and then we ask, "Why am I stuck in life?" We ask, "Why can't I move forward?"
At some point in your life, you went against everything that you knew you were and you decided to take a chance. Maybe it was with a person, maybe it was with a job, or maybe it was moving to a place you'd never been. I encourage everyone reading this to dig deep and stop playing with yourself. Find the roots of your issues, and stop playing with your life!
Stop making temporary changes. It's time to fix your root issues, and take your power back once and for all.
It all start with you.
