Find Your Focus
Today is a new start. What happened yesterday is over and done. Today you have another chance. What's going to be new for you? What can you let go of that is holding you back? What do you need to free yourself from? You may need to be freed from yourself. Your life is not about what happens to you, it's about how you respond to what happens to you. Life is about what you choose to focus on.
I know people that have everything, but they still have nothing because they are focused on the wrong things. I know people that have what the world would call "nothing," yet they have everything because they are focused on the right things. We must choose to focus on the things that bring us growth. For me, I have to protect my peace and protect my mental health. We are so afraid to drop off the map for a little while in case we miss something. I'm willing to miss anything if it means I hold on to my clarity and my peace. It matters that you take time to set your intention, love yourself, your neighbor, your family. Keep your eyes on a better version of yourself, and never lose sight of that progression, even if it means that you step back and focus on you for a little while.
Realign your thoughts to the things that bring you life. Where you plant your attention, that's where a garden will grow. If your attention is on your family's relationships, it will begin to mend itself. If your attention is on your mental health, you will find the things holding you back and be able to face them. If you focus on your physical health, you will begin to see improvements where your focus has guided you.
Remember that it is your choice to live in fear and anxiety. I know people who wake up already stressed and jump straight into their day, and I always tell them "you have to make time to sit on your porch and watch the sunrise, make time to remind yourself that you have a new beginning." Your way of connecting with the opportunity in the day may look different than watching the sunrise -- it may be meditation or prayer. It may be something else, but either way, you have the choice to practice protecting your peace each and every day. When you practice it enough, you begin to notice how big of a difference it makes, and when you miss a day, you'll feel the loss of that intentionality. I can't stress how important this is to practice.
Find yourself a routine that separates each day into its own reminder of your ability to forge a better life yourself. Today, you woke up with life and not everyone did. That's a perspective shift, and perspective is everything.
It all starts with you.
