Get Over Your Fears
Speaking used to be one of my biggest fears. I've been reflecting on how I was able to overcome my fear. Now when I'm on stage it's almost like second nature, and it's crazy how something you used to fear can have no hold on your life anymore. It is honestly wild.
First, I want to define what fear is to me. Fear is creating a known result from a situation you have yet to experience. Fear tells you what the result is going to be before you ever take the chance. Imagine that you are preparing yourself for a fight and fear tells you while outside of the ring that you know you won't win. It's trying to convince you that there's no reason to try because you already know the outcome, but the truth is that you don't. The truth is that it takes courage to fight when you feel like there's no hope of winning. Furthermore, maybe you can win if you stop listening to fear.
You may be in a relationship right now that has you in a bad place. Y'all know I want you to fight for your relationships, and I want you to have deep love in your life, but maybe you know that you would be better off without the relationship and yet you chose to stay. Are you staying because fear is telling you that no one will love you but this person? Is fear telling you that you wouldn't know who you are without the relationship? It's important for you to practice reminding yourself that you do notknow what is around that corner, and as real as fear can feel- it doesn't know either.
Maybe you have a dream of starting a new company but you can't help but think you already know how it will turn out. Fear is telling you that no one will care, that it will be too hard, or that you will inevitably fail. Well, maybe they won't care. Maybe it will be too hard, and maybe you will fail. But so what. You can not and will not know what the result will be until you stop listening to your fear and try. Fear can not stand where there is faith. Faith is the key to fear. When you know what fear is, you can then combat it with faith.
Now let's define faith. Faith is knowing that doors will open - even if you don't know that the door exists. You only know what you know now, and not what you will know by the time you succeed. Don't let fear tell you when your future will be, it's YOU that decides that. Practice having faith in the future and finding out the result of every dream or aspiration through experience and not through fear. You can apply this to every aspect of your life that you find fear, it sneaks in wherever you will let it. You got this.
It all starts with you.
