How Much Is Enough?
None of us are immune to struggle. Sometimes you can do everything in the world and the pain is still there -- it sticks with you like a ghost over your head. It echoes into your family life, your choices, and your job. When we feel that lack, we sometimes try to fill it with all the things of this world -- money, drugs, fame, success, and/or anything we can get our hands on; however, it never seems like enough. We are always looking for that next thing -- the next success, the next paycheck, or the next escape -- all while avoiding to look at what's right there in front of our very eyes.
I urge you to remind yourself of your blessings. Look for every blessing around you and you will feel lighter. We are so programmed to find the bad in our lives. It's difficult to look for our blessings in the midst of global or personal distractions, but we are truly blessed. I'm not saying that some things don't weigh heavier than others, but you are in control of where you focus your attention. No matter how much money, notoriety, or material things you possess, you can still struggle to find that peace. Your family may be struggling, but I urge you to be grateful that you have a family and a roof over your head. Maybe you don't have a roof over your head, but you have breath in your body and a new opportunity to change the road ahead. The more I am able to just stop and look around at my parents, my friends, my relationships, my mental health begins to follow that trail.
The people who survive tragedy are the ones who find peace and comfort in the midst of the storm. You are stronger than you think, and if no one has told you that they're proud of you, let me tell you - I am proud of you. There is someone in this world that is praying to be in the shoes that you walk in. You survived everything that you have been through to be standing here today, and look how far you have come. You have so much to be thankful for. You just need to look for it.
Thankfulness is the key to happiness.
We can't control the insanity happening in the world, only how we respond in crisis. I am thankful that you have today, and that the world has today. It is a gift. How you choose to spend this gift of a day is up to you. Don't carry unnecessary pain from yesterday into today. Today is a new beginning.
It all starts with you.
