You are going to have mountains in your life that you will need to face from time to time. Whatever that big thing is that has been looming over you and weighing on you for a significant period of time. For all intents and purposes, that is your mountain. Maybe it's stress, or it's depression or whatever. Let me tell you something, one of the biggest ways to heal depression and to take on your mountains is just movement.
Moving your body can make all of the difference. I went hiking this morning and originally I had a lot of people that were saying they were going to join me that didn't show up. A lot of times when I say I'm going to hike there will be so many people that tell me they are going to come and only a few end up showing. They don't come because it's early and it's hard work. I can't help but think that this is a perfect example of our lives. A lot of us aren't showing up out there for ourselves. We pick the easy path and we sleep in when we should be advocating for ourselves and taking the time to heal ourselves.
Inaction leads to suffering. When you stop moving physically, when you stop moving mentally, or spiritually then depression starts to set in. Self-pity starts to set in. You start to think that you aren't capable of being better. You start to believe that being healed and living the life you wanted just isn't something that you could do. You start to sleep in and give up on yourself. Whenever you have major issues going on in your life ninety percent of the time it is because you allow something to keep you from moving forward. You became still and that inaction led to your suffering. Now, I know there are things out there that can't be explained. Clearly not every problem is your fault. There are sicknesses or natural disasters that can damage your life majorly, but a lot of the time, and more often than we like to believe our problems are a consequence of our own inaction. Our own inability to make a move that could help us to heal.
We have to start showing up for the things that will help us to heal. We have to start showing up for the things that will allow us to grow. We need to start showing up for ourselves. I guarantee that if you start looking back and tracing down the root of a lot of the problems you are facing, you can find out what inaction caused that pain in the first place. If you can locate that place that you paused and start showing up for yourself, your life will start to change for the better. I can promise you that.
It all starts with you.
