How To Redefine Your Life
You can't succeed without like-minded people.
Today's message is about building up your circle, because if you aren't surrounding yourself with people operating at the same level of intensity and commitment that you are, you'll find yourself burnt out very quickly.
At the end of the day, you need real friends. You don't need yes-men and people who will lie to your face to preserve your friendship—you need real friends who you can always trust to tell you when you're falling off. Often, the people most scared to hurt our feelings are also the people who will prove least beneficial to your vision.
I've been blessed to have some great friends in my life. I've got people who will pull me aside and tell me, "I need you to level up." I have people who will say, "I know you can do better." You need people who you can trust to continue pushing you to be a better person, friend, spouse, and professional.
How do you level up? I've said this many times before, but if you want change, you've got to make big changes. What's holding you back from accomplishing your goals? A lot of us are insecure about ourselves and our abilities. A lot of us are fearful of failure. A lot of us, unfortunately, sit by the sidelines and watch as life passes us by.
It's time to stop being a watcher.
Failure isn't easy for anyone, but you've got to go out and fail before you can succeed.
If you want to kill your insecurity, you've got to go out and do things you're afraid of. There's no way around it—the only way past your insecurity is straight through. If you want to love who you are, you need to exercise being yourself on a daily basis. You can't masquerade as someone else and have any hope of succeeding as yourself.
If you're not being challenged, you're not being driven outside your comfort zone. If you're not being driven outside your comfort zone, you're not going to be able to progress. You will stay the same and life will continue moving forward outside of you.
One of my favorite things to point out is that those who are truly on the top of their game don't make a point of being on top of their game. What I mean like that is, the best athletes and the most competent professionals are always looking for how they can get better.
Success is a matter of two things—standards, and your adherence to those standards. If you can hold yourself and your circle to higher standards, you'll be setting yourself up for success.
Stop being afraid of your big dreams. Don't be scared of making big goals. The fear of burning out plagues so many of us, but that's where your support system comes in. When you're surrounded by people going through the same struggle as you, voluntarily, you'll be in the ideal environment to level up.
