Let me be real with you for a minute. We live in a culture that is constantly obsessed with the external world and that consumes our attention. We know more about celebrity relationships than things happening in our own lives and we don't spend the time necessary to research our own lives. It's vital that you spend time getting to know what it is that motivates you, what keeps you going, where you are in your story, and how to be healthy in mind, body and spirit. Self care will change your life.
If you don't know where to start and you are feeling down, start with accomplishment. It's simple but it works. It doesn't have to be the biggest accomplishment in the world, start small. Think about little wins in your life that made a big difference, choices that you made that you didn't have to do but you did. Think about the times you made a conscious effort to make your life better no matter how small the choice. A small one for me that made a huge difference was intermittent fasting. I have more energy than before, I think more clearly and many other benefits because of that small life change. That's an accomplishment!
Don't be afraid to try new things and test new healthy habits in your life. You can do anything for a month, that's easy. Practice learning to listen to your body and the more habits you pick up and try, the more in tune with yourself you'll be. This will also build confidence in yourself, as you try new things, you'll recognize how capable you are in so many ways that you never would have thought. I can't stress how important it is to build this trust up with yourself.
Habit trading is another method I use sometimes. If I catch myself going down a rabbit hole of negative thoughts about someone, I remember that this thinking has more to do with me than it does them and it is my responsibility to get to the bottom of it. So instead of continuing with my negative thought pattern, I then use that time to do something that connects me closer with myself. Some of those replacement habits include working out, meditation, prayer, going outside and connecting with nature, and really anything that brings you that peace with yourself.
You have one life, get to know it.
It all starts with you.
