I need you to ask yourself honestly - are you letting your past hold you back? This is a hard subject for some people to talk about because we want to hold onto those things that we have experienced. We often confuse who we are for what we've been through. You are not what you have been through. You are a product of what you have been through. Understand this -- for me, If I'm going to go through something, I'm going to grow through something. If I have to have pain in my life, I better have something good that came from it even if this means that I have to retell that story to myself until it reflects a journey of growth.
Some of y'all have incredible stories that you have been through but you just keep those experiences with no intention of telling your story to better your life and other people's lives. These Things that you have been through could be the very things that you can use to create the life you were born to live out. Take those broken pieces and make a masterpiece out of your life. Use it! It's not about what happens to you in your life it's about how you use those moments. Some of the worst things that happened to me in my life turned out to be the greatest tools for my life.
I decided not to surrender to those things and you shouldn't either. Some of you are surrendered to your pain, your depression, your past. Surrender to your purpose and the plan that God has for your life. Some of you need to let your past know that you are a beast, instead of sleeping on your life! Don't count yourself out because other people have counted you out- count on yourself. I'm talking to you. I know it's tough but we are uncommon and cannot surrender to things that are holding you back. It's not an option. I know it's not fair but what are you going to do about it?
When you tell your story, you should be juxtaposing your tragedy with what it gave you in return. Here's the formula:
"if it wasn't for this thing that broke me, I wouldn't be living the purpose for my life."
Recognize that this is not the end of your life, your life is a story and this is one chapter so turn that page and find out what's next. God has a funny way of working in us. Take the chance to make a change and tell yourself that you don't care if the next ten pages look this way you have to have faith that the eleventh page is going to be different. Maybe it's next year that things will be different, maybe it's several years from now but your job is to keep the faith that this is part of your journey and it's vital that you live it so you can overcome it.
Don't let your past own you, own your past. Let's get it.
It all starts with you.
