Stop the Chase
Many of us are unhappy with ourselves because we spend so much time comparing our lives to the lives of the people around us or even to celebrities that we see on social media because someone always has more than us. Someone always runs faster than us. Someone always scores higher than us. Someone always gets more chances than we do. Someone is always one step ahead of us (or several steps ahead of us) at every turn. A lot of us are unhappy because we try too often to change things that we can't change because it is out of our control. We start to become unhappy with ourselves because we believe that we are responsible for things we couldn't possibly be responsible for. Some of us are unhappy because we have decided that the entire world is out to get us and we are the victim in every way that we feel inadequate.
When I look through my life and I find the places where I was most unhappy every time it was because I spent way too much of my time chasing. I was chasing the American dream, or chasing the perfect body, or chasing some amount of money, love, or followers on social media. I would spend day and night focused on chasing things that do not matter to my life in the scheme of things. I would do that all of the time and wonder why I was always so tired. I would wonder why I felt empty. I would wonder why I was always so empty. And so many of us out there right now spend our days and nights doing the same thing over and over again. We are too focused on chasing what we do not have or even what we can't have to enjoy what we do have right in front of us. We spend our whole lives chasing instead of appreciating. We spend our whole lives chasing instead of attracting. Some of you guys are so stuck chasing something that was never meant for you to catch and you wonder why you are not catching it.
God will put things in your life if you are meant to have them. That doesn't mean you do not have to work for things by any means. You do, but there are some things that will always be just out of your control or just out of your reach and some of you will spend your whole lives only focused on those things and you will never get what is best of you and you will never appreciate what you do get.
It is up to you to start changing your perspective on your life. It is time to stop chasing everything that you can't have. It's time to stop chasing everything that is just out of your reach. Start focusing on what is right in front of you and work on those things that you can really have an impact on. Most importantly, start appreciating what you have now.
It all starts with you.
