The Breakthrough That Changed My Life
Many of us live in the now, which can be good, but it can also keep us from growing. Living in the now is good because it is good to be present and not be defined by our past, but it can hinder us because sometimes we live so presently that we feel like things will never get better than they are right now and that is just not true. We start to believe that the pain we feel now is all we will ever feel so we just start to accept it. We start to accept that this intense pain and struggle is just the way our lives are going to go. We start to accept the way people treat us even if people treat us poorly. We start to believe sometimes that we deserve the pain or that we deserve to be treated badly.
So if we are always staying there and we are never motivated to get out of this situation to go where we need to go in life then we will always be unhappy. I want you to know that no matter what your current situation is, that is not your destination. Your life will be full of ups and downs and neither of them will define your life forever. Trust me, I have been there before in my own life so I know how hard it can be to try to envision these things when you want to have a picture of how things could be in order to keep the faith that things will get better.
The biggest breakthrough in my life was understanding where I wanted to be and really truly taking the time to envision what that would look like to get there instead of just accepting where I was at the moment. I had to learn to focus on who I wanted to be instead of the problems that I felt in my life at the time. You have to kind of think of it like a hike. Last time I went on a hike it was basically a straight incline. It was cold, rough, it was like two miles up. It was tough, but what kept me going was I just kept imagining myself reaching the top of the mountain. I started picturing what that would look like when I finally made it up there, and that made it easier for me to make it through all of the tedious hiking.
We are going to go through stages in our lives that feel tedious and unending. We are all going to experience times where we feel like the struggle or the pain is unbearable or that it is all there is, but in those times we just have to be intentional about imagining what we want. We have to imagine our goals and imagine ourselves accomplishing them, and most importantly we have to have the faith that we can actually do that to keep us going.
It all starts with you.
