What is a commitment? It’s a promise to yourself. It’s even deeper than a promise. It’s a new standard. So many of us move into New Year’s with a cute little promise to ourself. A small promise that we don’t take seriously enough to make a difference. The promise doesn’t stick because we didn’t allow for it to be as deep as a commitment. This is your life. You have to commit to a better version of you life to get the rewards of a better life. It’s just facts.
If you want to see real change in your life, you are going to need to commit to making it happen. Life is going to get hard and the roads will be tough. If you don’t have a “why” that is strong enough to weather that storm then you won’t be able to stick to your new commitment. So let me ask you this- “what is your reason?” Ask yourself and mean it. Ask yourself and really listen. Whatever it is- what’s the reason that you have to heal? What’s the reason that you have to start that business? What’s the reason that you have to take care of yourself? What’s the reason that you have to be healthier? You have to know what is driving you. You have to get really clear on that answer to the “why.” When the reason is strong enough, the struggle, opinions, setbacks, whatever will never be too big to take you down.
When I was on the treadmill this morning, this is what encouraged me- “what is the theme of your life?” Are you going to be the type of person that continually strived to be stronger, better, more positive and faithful? When those situations arise, you already know how you are going to respond because you have already made up your mind about how you are going to respond. If you really want to make a change in your life, you have to decide who you are and make up your mind on how you are going to respond. If you don’t have that, you will respond with fear.
See, the problem is that a lot of us are living like we have time. We are living like the timeline of our lives is long and slow. This is an illusion. Live like tomorrow doesn’t exist. Live like next year doesn’t exist.
If 2021 taught me anything, it’s that you don’t have time. All you have is right now. If you are waiting for the perfect time to start in your life, you are going to be waiting for your whole life. If this year was your last year, how would you live it? How would you show up for the people in your life? Nothing in this world is forever. It’s time to start implementing a bit of healthy urgency. The time is now, it’s all you have.
It all starts with you.
