What You Need To Protect
If you knew that this year was your last year -- it is not going to be -- but if you knew that it was, what would you create? Who would you cut off? Who would you finally make time for? I know that a lot of people feel like towards the end of their life that they regret not getting the most out of their lives. That is a real possibility. I think a lot of us go around believing that there will always be more time to do something. We think there will always be more time to talk to that one friend about what has been bothering you, or we think there will always be more time to follow that goal we set out for ourselves way back when we were eighteen years old that we always wanted to do, or we think that there will always be more time to start treating ourselves right and protect our peace.
I personally feel like the only way that you can stay focused on what you want to do and what you want to accomplish is to keep in mind that you don't have forever to do it. If you knew this was your last year then you would get started on your goals right away, right? Well, maybe it is time to stop procrastinating and stop pretending that there will always be more time, because at some point there won't be, right? I do not mean to be dark or anything. I am just trying to be realistic and give you perspective. It is because we never face this question that we allow ourselves to get so behind on who we want ourselves to become.
If you want to get started on your goals now, then you have got to start protecting your time. If you treat your time as if it is a bottomless barrel then you will never get anything done. Start protecting your time as if it is a valuable resource. If you want to write something, then get in front of the computer. If you want to work out, get up and go to the gym. You do not have to write five hundred pages or lift five hundred pounds. Just get in there. Spend your time in the space where you will have nothing else to do but stare into space, or work towards your goal. I promise it will get easier and easier to work on whatever it is if you can just start putting yourself in the position to grow.
Your time is valuable and it needs to be protected or else you could spend your time wasting it away. You do not want to get to the end of your life with a big list of regrets. You want to get to the end of your life and remember all of the times where you put yourself out there and worked at your goals. Whether your goals are for you or your relationships with others, get started now, because at the end of the day you can't put more time on the clock.
It all starts with you.
