Who’s Controlling Your Life
Who’s controlling your life? This is the question on my mind today. Have you asked yourself this question lately? Who is it that is in control of your thoughts and actions? For some of us the answer Simply this: Life. Life is in control of your life. What do I mean by that? I mean there are those of us out there that take whatever life throws at them and pretend that this is what they get. They convince themselves that they have no control over the events in their life. They convince themselves that they have no control over the people in their lives. They convince themselves that they have no control over the perspectives that they chose to take throughout the day. Life is controlling their life.
You can't afford to let life control your life. It’s too unpredictable and it will lead you to pain and distrust in the world. So you have to ask yourself what you are allowing into your world? Maybe you are following someone on social media that only brings negativity into your life and you wonder why you feel negative. Maybe you are hanging out with friends that tear you down instead of building you up, and you wonder why you feel down. Maybe you are choosing to make unhealthy choices throughout the day and you wonder why your body feels weak. Who and what are you giving permission to be in your mind? What shouldn’t have access to your heart but still does?
If you lost your job today and came back to the office tomorrow, would your key fob still work? No, because you lost access. I remember when I was cut from the NFL, that happened to me. I tried to get in the locker rooms to grab the rest of my stuff but the fob didn’t work anymore. When you shut out your social media app but you are still following that negative account, you haven’t stopped its access in your life- you’ve allowed it. When you tell a friend that you no longer wish to have them in your life, but they come crawling back and you let them- you are allowing it. Cut off the access to the things that are negatively controlling your life. It’s not rude, or mean to do so. It’s the right thing to do.
You have to make these choices so that you are not living a life of a follower mentality. Your life should be a leader mindset. You are in the drivers seat and you are the only one who ever should be. Don’t accept the flow of the world. Don’t accept the flow of your environment. You need to be in charge, it’s not rocket science. But it has to be a “have to,” in order for there to be change, it can’t be a “want.”
It all starts with you.
