This is the big question on everyone’s mind- why don’t you love yourself? I have put a lot of thought into this question over the last few years because it is one of the biggest issues of our time. For some people, it holds them back for their entire life. They are never able to see around it. I can’t afford for that to happen to you, because I know you are worth way more than you could ever know.
For a lot of people, the biggest issue is that we look to outside sources for validation. We look to outside scenarios, people, titles, income or whatever to tell us our worth. More so now than ever in the age of social media. We have a comparison crisis like never before in history. For some of you, you’ve been waiting for the right group of friends to tell you your worth. For some, maybe you’ve been wanting the love and approval from your parents that you never got. Maybe for you, it’s that you’ve been waiting on the right partner to come along and then everything will be okay. A lot of folks will wait for their bank account to fill up and think that everything will be alright once you hit a certain number.
I’m here to tell you that you are wrong. I’m here to remind you that if you can’t love yourself at your lowest point then you never will. You won’t love yourself when the right person comes along, or group of friends. You won’t love yourself when your parent’s finally say what you’ve been wanting to hear from them for a long time. You won’t love yourself when your pockets are overflowing with money, or when you get that job you’ve been pining for. Why? Because when you try to base your worth off of an outside source, it is never sustainable. Your self-worth is inherent in who you are. Your value comes from the fact that a loving God hand- crafted you in your mother’s womb and meant for you to be here on Earth. Your value is something that only you can see in the way that you need to be seen. Once you learn this, others will learn how to see it as well but it can’t come to you the other way around.
Look inward for your value. Look at the things in your life that you have overcome and become your own hero to yourself. That’s all a hero is isn’t it? Someone who overcomes obstacles to become the best version of themself? Someone who then uses that version of themselves to inspire and invoke positive change in the world, right? That can be you. That is you, just waiting to be seen. Take a moment today to look back on your life and the things that you have overcome. Recognize that your value is inherent and does not ebb and flow like the seasons of your life.
It all starts with you.
