For me, faith is a spiritual practice, and that is what I see as the most important thing, but for other people, faith can look different. Just so you know, you are already operating out of faith all of the time. When you drive to work, there is no guarantee that you are going to make it there. When you wait to get paid, there is no guarantee that is going to happen. But you are operating on faith, so you press on even when you don't know for sure. Here is the truth: A faithless life is an empty life. A lot of us lose faith because of our past. We lose faith because of comparison. We lose faith because of circumstances.
The biggest lie we have been fed is that outside things will make us fulfilled, and that outside things will give us worth. The worst part is that we bought it. We bought that lie wholeheartedly. We started to believe that the amount of money we have in the bank will determine how fulfilled we are. We believed that our followers on social media can make us feel fulfilled. We started to believe that if we had the right kind of body that lives up to impossible standards then we will be fulfilled, but none of that is true.
Now, I am certainly not trying to bash anyone for working hard. Sometimes people work hard on their body, or they work hard for a promotion at work. Let me tell you something, that is awesome. It's a great thing to work hard and earn something, but it just doesn't determine your value. It won't fulfill you ultimately. There will always be more that you need to do. Why is that? Because when we work to feel fulfilled, nine times out of ten we are ignoring some pain that we don't want to deal with. And whenever you finish whatever goal you have set up to distract yourself you will just end up feeling the pain all over again because your distraction has come to an end. What will still be there is your lack of faith. What will still be there is your pain.
No matter how much you receive from the world, like money, fame, fake love, you will still have the things you didn't deal with. Because if you don't deal with the pain it will eventually deal with you. This idea that celebrity status doesn't include loneliness and despair and confusion is absolutely false. Celebrities still get depressed and lonely. It's only when you learn to appreciate your life for the things that you have and you begin to have faith in yourself and faith in the world around you that you can start working through the pain and heading on the right path. So find your faith, and deal with your pain.
It all starts with you.
