If You Really Knew Me
One of my favorite quotes is: "God will allow you to go to places you don't understand, just to bring you to the place He needs you to be."
I've come back to that quote time and time again. There have been moments where I thought whatever I was doing would make up my whole life path. Later, I'd find that those times were only parts of my life, and the funny thing is, it's impossible for us to connect the dots perfectly from our mortal, human perspectives.
There are times I've struggled, and times I've had incredible successes. It's only when I look back that I realize those times were only chapters in a bigger story. For that reason, I am very intersted in holistic success. There are many types of success—being an NFL player was one part of success, but it wasn't holistic. To me, the trilogy of success encompasses mental success, physical success, and spiritual success.
Some of us are lucky enough to start ahead in the race of life. My dad was incredibly present in my life, even though he's always worked long hours. Having that kind of parenting changed my perspective.
Every single day is a seed that I'm planting for my kids—how I operate, how I respond, how I deal with stress, and how I show up for them will heavily influence the adults my children become.
Life is a relay race.
A lot of adults spend their entire lives recovering from their childhoods, because their parents gave them broken tools to build their futures with. Some parents don't pass their kids a baton ahead. To me, one of life's greatest honors is being able to raise my children properly.
That's why holistic success is so important to me. Being connected with nature and fostering a strong relationship with God will keep you present. Praying regularly has helped me focus on what really matters in life.
Protecting your peace is incredibly important. I got off social media for a month because I realized that even though I'd lose out on some things, that lessened exposure to noise would help me prioritize peace and ultimately become a better person and a better father for my kids.
Every day, people let small things ruin their holistic success. There is noise we all keep in our lives that destroys our peace, keeping us from focusing on what's truly important.
What are you keeping in your life that is keeping you off balance? What are you focusing on too much? What are you not focusing on enough?
Get rid of the noise, and embrace holistic success.
It all starts with you.
